THE AGENT GENERAL

[By Teleqbaph.] [fbom oub special cobbksrondknt.] WELLINGTON, June 17. The Vo^el matter haa assumed a new complication. The Government sought fche advice of the Public Accounts Oommittee aa to what would be a fair remuneration for the inscription of stock. The Committee replied to fche effect tha'- this did not i-ouie within Die tc-*pe of their functions, und that they had i.othing on which to base a calculation as to what would be; proper remuneration. They further point out that the Government has itself to blame for being in the picsenfc fix wifch respect to the Agent-General. They say that the person to whom the question of remuneration should be rt ferred is the AgentGeneral himaelf, but thafc inasmuch aa the Government have already made Sir J. Yogel an intereßted party, they cannot now refer tbe queation to bim. The Oommittee go even further, and point out to the Government that through 'their own actions they cannot look for entirely disinterested advice from Sir J. Yogel on any question, he now being beneficially or otherwise interested in any action affecting the Colony with respect to which he, in hiß capacity of Agent General, should be abaolutely diainterested.
