The Board of Education for the District of North Canterbury held an ordinary meoting yesterday afternoon; the folio wiug member.* were present — Messrs John Ingliß (Chair man), Cunningham, H. ft. Mr Dawson was not certificated, and the Chairman pointed ont that there were aeveral certificated teachers available for the Bohool. Tho Chairman stated that aeveral teachera who had been temporarily appointed on condition that, tbey would come up for examination had failed to fulfil the condition. A letter from Mr Newlanda waa read commenting upon the action taken againat bim by tho Committee, aid asking that he might be alio** ed fc j send all fche correspondence to the Minister for Education. llie Board reaolved to allow him to Bend his correspondence to the Minister for Education as he requested. WAIKUKU. A letter from the teacher to the Chairman of the Committee waa read, alao a reply tothe laker's letter asking for au apology. Ihe Committeo now asked for tha teacher's diainiaaal. Toe Board reaolved to give the teacher three months' notice. TBAOIIEBS' PENSIONS BIU. A letter from Mr Rolleston waa read, enclosing a copy of the Teachera' Pensions Bill, and asking that the Board would lay its provisions bofore the teachera. EDUCATION AOT. A letter was read auggeating amendments to tho Education Bill, and asking for suggeationa from the Board. The Chairman Baid that there was no intention, he understood, to amond fche Act during thia Beaaion. The Board agreed that many things in the preaent Bill wanted altering, but it would bo no use talking aboufc them at preaent. They reaolved fco roply to the letter to that effect. 00NTBACT3. The seal of the Board was directed to bo applied to the contract of Thomas Reade. TENDERS. Tenders for alterations to East Oxford School were opened, and that of Mr Keath (£392 10s) was accepted. There were five or six other tenders. Tenders for the Heathcote Valley School wero opened, and that of Mr Saxter (£3Ol 8a) was accepted. There were cix other tenders. For the Lower Heathcote School there were fifteen tenders ; that of Mr Fergus (£-170) was accepted. For tha West Oxford School (additions and repairs) there were aix or seven tenders ; that of Mr Grimwood (£2lO and £30) waa accepted. For repairs to the West Christohurch School there wero five tenders ; thafc of Mr Carter (£32) waa accepted. XOBUBN. A letter from tho Committee was read, urging thafc additions should be made to the Muter*! house. The Chairman explained that the application had been refused aa others had been, in consequence of want of funds. Mr Cunningham stated tbat a member of the Committee had told him of an omission iv lho repairs being done. The Secrotary said that he had spoken to the Architect, who, said it was a Bmall matter and could oasily bo attended to. The Board resolved to inform the Committee that their wishes would be attended to with those of others, as Boon aa the Board ia ia funds. BAST CHBISTCHUBCH. Plana of the closets for the East Christchuroh sohools were examined, and the Board deferred their decision upon them. After disposing of aomo other departmental businesa, tho Board went into Committeo at 20 minutes past 5.
