NO BATHING IN THE RIVER.

TO THH EDITOR 01' THE STAB, . Sib,— Allow me through the medium of your valuable paper, to call attention to a grievance whioh I consider vory arbitrary. I tor one am very fond of my bath, and havo been in the habit of taking samoafc'the publio bathing place. On proceeding thither' last; ovoning as usual after tho prohibited hours had lapsed, I was informed by a plain- clothes constable that I must nob bathe; bub pb-; serving that the notices with begird to the hours for bathing ; . were still up, I insisted upon taking my bath. 'Upon t accompanying the constable, at 'his request*' to tho Pofioo station, I was informed by tho^ Sorgoanfc in charge, that the constablo had ' been sent up by mistake I accordingly wont to tako my bath this : evening, when I was rather surprised, at seeing another constable in uniform, and, on looking at the notice board, I perceived that they wero baro. As I understand that bathing at that place is now prohibited altogether, J should liko to know/ the reasons, for suohan, arbitrary step boyig taken. Surely tho rivor is large onough for tho boating publio, to enjoy themselves without their boing so greody as to want to h*Vo it all to themselves ? I, myself do not see why arrangements could not be made, bo that a few hours might bo sot apart for bathing, during which boats oould be prohibited from approaching tho bathing place in question.
