THE LYTTELTON ELEOTION.

TO THE EDITOR of the star. Sir, — Will you allow mo spaco in the Star to remind my follow-rcsidcnts and cloctorß of Lyttelton that ifc will bo our " privilege " tomorrow to voto for Mr Murray-Aynsley. While remembering this extreme condescension on his part, I hope we will not forget tbe question of tho extension of the squatting leases. This hope, even the casual observer must have noticed during the present contest, has stirred the squatting and land-jobbing fraternity into making tho most desperate effortß to return their men by mounting the working-man's or any otlier man's shoulders. While wetting our pencils, I hope we will remember how an attempt was mado to decoive and prejudico us by a statement that under the new Representation Bill we would be annexed to Acaroa, which impossibility under that Bill has been proved by Mr Montgomery at the Akaroa nomination. While we go on still softening the " blue," I hope wo will, think how these landholders in their hatred of their Land Tax— which touches thoir big unimproved estates— will, should thoy get into power, impose a tax on our little bits of property bought with hardearned Bavings of years, and whioh will eventually become bo burdensome that we will be glad to abolish it Land Tax and nil. Also wo must not fail to remember that if the Squatters' Bank gets tho handling of tho five million loan, the purchato of ltmd for speculative purposes only will havo the pre*

ference to the execution of Publio Works ; and while remembering all this, let us think once more of his extreme condescension, take a big laßt suck afc our pencils, and vote straight like free Britons ! If wo are truo to ourselves, ifc will be Allrigltt for Lyttelton in the end — I am, &c, LYTIELTONIAN. Lyttelton, Sept. 3.
