PRESENTATION AT THE RAILWAY.

A presentation of a very pleasing nature took place yesterday afternoon at the railway station, Tho occasion was the formal leaving from that branch of the department of Mr W. M. Hannay, who has lat?ly filled tho offico of Secretary of Bailwnys, and has beon promoted to the position of manager of tlio newly formed section, extending from Tomuka to Palmerston. Tho presentation was unofficial, the testimonial having been subscribed for by the heads and chief clerks of the various branches of the Ohristchurch department, who were desirous that bo esteemed a brother officer sVioull receive a Bouvenir of their goodwill before .leaving for his new sphere of duty. Tho testimonial consisted of a very handsome marble time,- jplfleej'ijtb; which was added an elegant elebwo*plftte&' teapot for Mrs Hannay.

During the afternoon thpro assembled Messrs Back, Smith, Floyd, Garston, Gnrd, Dickoneon, Henderson, and Edmonds, and when Mr Hannay had arrived by invitation, to his surprise, Mr Back, General Manager, on behalf of his brother officers, made the presentation, expressing in language appro- 4 priate to the occasion the good- n lll and* sincere respect ontortained for Mr barinay throughout every branch of the department, and adding their best wishes for Sis future success. Mr Back concluded by handing Mr Hannay the subscribers' present for Mrs Hannay. Mr Hannay made a feeling roply, in which ho referred to the unexpected surprise whifh had been prepared for him. He also thanked his friends heartily for their kind recollection of Mrs Hannay. Mr Hannay left this morning for Oamaru, wbere he w)H reside in future, and takes with him not only the good wishes of bis brother officers and officials throughout tho wholo of the Ohristchurch department, but olso of the mercantile community here brought into business contact with him in his late office, and particularly during the very busy period when he so successfully performed the duties of Acting Commissioner of Builwajs.
