[SFBOIAL.] June 19. At a meeting of the Wesleyana last night contributions amounting to nearly £900 were proposed towards re-buSding the church destroyed in the recent fire. Messrs Hisoocks and Hayman have secured a lease of the Theatre Royal for_ 12 months from September 21, when existing eßgagements expire. The Hutt Election Writ will be issued tomorrow. "Maritana" will be performed hy amateurs for the benefit of the sufferers by the fire. An inquest was held on the Opera House fire to-day, but nothing was adduced to show the origin. An open verdict was returned. Several pilferers at the late fire received sentences of 14 days eaoh to-day. The Kinross perjury case haa been further adjourned. Mr Rees stated that he had not reoeived any reply to his letter to the Speaker of the legslative Council, asking him to allow the Olerk of the Council to give evidence. Imogene Flinders, who has "ceen in the Hospital since her attempt at suicide, has avoided legal proceedings by levanting, it is supposed, to Melbourne. The statement that the Union Company intend to reduce their seamen's wages is denied. It is understood that in the face of the present state of the revenue, and falling off of land returns, Government will not propose further reductions in Cuatoms' duties this year. A new Representation Bill will be one of the first measures introduced this session. The New Zealand Titanic Steel and Iron Company obtained judgment in the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, against a large number of shareholders for amounts due for calls. The amounts ranged from £10 to £50. i Mr Reeves, M.H.R., on his return to Wellington, waited on the Minister for Public Works, who assured him that tenders would be called, within ten days, for a section of the Brunner- Amberley Bailway, and also the extension of the Foxhill and West Coast line.
