RAKAIA.

A meeting of this Board was held at the Board room on Tune 9 ; present— Hon John Hall (in the chair), Messrs Westenra, Dilloway and Thwaites. The* Surveyor's report was read and considered. . Mr Burgess waited upon the Board by appointment, to support the complaint made in his letter against the Surveyor's action in refusing to pass his work. After lengthened consideration, the Board decided not to interfere with tho decision of tho Surveyor in the matter of this contract — A letter from Mr Aitken, in reference to tree planting, was read. It was decided that any surplus of the. trees mentioned by Mr Aitken after supplying what is required for the cemetery and domain, be planted as suggested by. him.— Mr. Ilobson's report on the boundary of the Lake Coleridge Boad District was read, It was decided that a sketch surrey be made.to enable the. boundary as now settled to be marked on the maps.— A. letter from the Selwyn County Counoil was read, on the subject of the_proposed bridges on the roads loading to the Rakaia (Jorge. It was resolved that this Board will contribute half the coßt of the proposed bridge over the Hororata, on condition that the Oolendge and South Maivera Boards contribute' a fair proportion to the cost of the Glenturinel bridge.— The Chairman reported that the Plantation Board had agreed to. plant 20 acres of Reserve 1738 and 20 acres of Reserve 1763, and that the work had already been commenced.— It was decided that the Board will at its next meeting proceed to. make & rate of 6d in the £ upon all rateable property upon the valuation list.— lt was resolved to postpone any action in the matter of ereoting a foot bridge at Hartnell'a crossing, until the effects whioh the works recently carried out will have upon' the course of the river Bhall be ascertained.— It was decided to aocept Mr Mangham's tender for continuing the formation of the road, from the end of his present contract to the Rakaia- Bridge.— lt was also decided to form Drummond's road all the way from Rakaia Bridge to the foot of the terrace, instead of forming only the roughest portion of it, as decided at the last meeting.— The following new works were authorised :— To put in new box culverts on the road between Dunsandel and Selwyn j to put in new pipe culverts on Wright's road ; the formation of about five miles running from tho Hororata Bridge towards Dunsandel ; the formation of about one mile running eastward from Horarata school corner towards Mr Thwaite's section 5 to erect sign posts at Selwyn Bchool corner and at Hororata school corner.
