The Singer Manufacturing Company's sales for 1876, aB officially returned, reached the enormous number of 264,316 Machines, exceeding by 163,319 the sales of the' W. and W. Company, the only aspiring rival of the Singer, and the Singer Company's returns for 1877 amount to 282,812 Machines, being an increase for the year of 20,496 Machines, while their principal rival significantly refuses to supply any returns. At the Centennial Exhibition the Singer Company exhibited their Two Millionth Machine, and the vast extent of the manufacturing operations of the firm may be inferred from the fact that their works at Elizabeth Port, New Jersey, cover six acres of ground, employ 2500 hands^ and turn out about 4000 machines per week.
