CRIMINAL STATISTICS.
The criminal statistics of Christchurch for tho quarter ended March 31 last have just been compiled, and the table appended shows the total number of offences reported under the several headings, the total number of apprehensions made, and the increase and decrease upon the previous quarter. There were during the quarter 251 offences reported to the police, »nd 234 arrests made. Seventeen persons (all males) were committed for trial, 163 males and 36 females were summarily convicted, and 16 males and 2 females discharged. Altogether there were £2 apprehensions fewer than during the quarter ended December, 1878. '
