KAIAPOI WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.

Tho tea meeting and entertainment in connection with tho Kaiapoi We.leyan Church Sunday School came off on Monday laat, and notwithstanding the inclement state of tho weather, thero waa a vory fair attendance both at tho tea and the entertainment. Tables wore provided by Mesdames R. M. Wright, J. Armitage, H. Keetley, J. Burrows, and Isaac Wilson, and by tho bachelors, and Mr 11. A' Court.

After the tea had beon cleared away, fcho Superintendent of fcho Sunday School read the following report : — " In 'presenting Hub cur annual reporfc, we desire to gratefully acknowledge tho goodness of tho Almighty in connection with tho School during the year just passed. At the commencement of the year wo had 195 names on tho books, and wo have afc tho prosenfc time to reporfc bho same number. The average attendance is I'M-, boing an increase of ono as againat that of last year. The number of teachers is 22, with an average attendance of 18 * last year the number was 27, with an avorago attendance of 17, ao that tho prosent year showa a decided improvement. Wo are still sufEoring from a want of teachers, as much difficulty ia experienced by the Superintendent in providing teachers for the various classes. Tho morning school is progressing favourably, and the attendance shows an improvement on that of laat year, although, as in the afternoon, tho want of teachers is severely felt, the Superintendent having frequently to take tho whole sohool ns one olaß3. Wo desire especially to bring this matter before you as the progress of the school must of necessity bo impaired through the want of teachers. We sincerely trust that by mentioning the want felt that it may bo remedied by some of those members of fcho congregation who ure not otherwise engaged becoming teaohers in connection with the Sabbath Scoool. The officers elected for the j ensuing year are : — Messrs Blaokwell, Superintendent ; Sherrate, Secretary j Burrows, Treasurer; and AfCourfc" Librarian- Wp j have also a nforning superintendent 'id canvassers. The Librarian reports fchafc there are I in the library 220 volumes, and the number

of numbers to be — Boys 30, girls 44, teachers 12: total 86. In consequence of no money having been spent on the library for some timo, anew supply of books is muoh needel, owing to the delapidated state of the present ones. Tbe receipts for fche past; year have been (including a balance from last year of £4 10s o_d) £47 13s B_d. The expenditure for the same period has been £47 13s 3d, leaving a balance of s id in hand.

The entertainment consisted of hymns sung by the school children, and addresses by the Revs W. McGr3gor, W. Beck, and J. Baumber, and by Mr Jas. Wood.

At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was given lo the ladies who provided the tables, the Chairman (Mr G. H. Black well), fche speakers and the teachers. The amounts received were — for Sabbath collection, £6 12a ; collection afc the meeting, £3 3a 6d ; and proceeds of the tea meeting, £10 : total, £19 15a sd.
