Twenty-eight cases are sot down for hearing at the R. M. Court to-morrow before Mr Barstow.
Mr Singleton Rochfort, a lawyer, has sent a letter to the Serald proprietors stating that the conviction of Mrs Major Croker for obtaining goods under false pretences was the result of a conspiracy, and asserting that her conviction and sentence of six months' imprisonment took away the breath of the public. Major Croker threatens an action for £5000 for the comments in the Herald. The proprietors of that journal decline to comply with the Major's request for an apology, and have instructed their lawyers to defend any case brought against them. J. L. Byers, the actor, who was missing for three days, was found lasfc nighfc on fche Tararu tract, having lost his way. Laat night Captain Tachell of the May Queen, was serenaded by the Artillery band for the kind manner in which he had assisted various charitable institutions while his ship was in harbour.
A large number of people are enrolling themselves on the electoral rolls. Committees are sitting for the purpose of aiding the work, and also for purging tho roll. The venerable lady and long resident, Mrs Churton, died yesterday after a short illness, at her residence, Parnell. She was 78 years old, and the widow of the late Rev J. F. Churton, L.L.D., for many years Colonial Chaplain, and first minister of St Paul's Cathedral Church, Auckland, to whoae memory a monument was erected. She leaves a large family of children and grandchildren.

Tho Athletic Sports in aid of the Kaitangata Fund on Saturday promise to be very successful. There are 68 entries. His Worship the Mayor presents a valuable cup. Mr Alexander, a solicitor, ha?, on the recommendation of Mr Justice Gillies, been appointed Electoral Rolls Revising Officer for tho Auckland Provincial District. Mr Lawlor has been superseded. The Bay of Islands Royal Commission have finished taking evidence at Hokianga, and adjourned to Auckland to take tho evidenco of Mr Lawlor, tho Revising Officer at Auckland. Mr Bryce then goes to Taranaki by sea, and thence overland to Wanganui.
