NEW ZEALAND.
AUCKLAND. [special to the stae.] Jan. 13. It is stated that the recent raid on publichouses for gambling was at the expressed wish of the Ministry. An old soldier named Hill, formerly of the 51st Eegiment, was found dead in his residence. He claimed to have been at Corunna and Waterloo, and to be 105 years old. Mr Coulson, alias Sir Richard Carkeet Coulson, who has just been liberated from gaol, is again in the hands of the police on a charge of smashing a window. He has been removed to the hospital to have his wounds sewn up. Colonel Eosenvelt, lately American Consul here, has departed by the City of New York for San Erancisco somewhat unexpectedly, and to the surprise of several neighbours and friends.
