(Before H. K. Webb and T. H. Potts, Esqre.) Lunacy fhoji Dbink.— Charles Bloom, on remand from Oxford for medical treatment, was discharged from custody, being ordered to pay 10a 6d for medical fee. Refusal ofDctt. — John M'Cartney, cook on board the schooner Saxon, was charged •with tin's offence, and sentenced to 14 days' hard labour. Abvsitb and THBBATBKiNa Language. — Mary Ann Newton was charged by Joseph Thompson with haying used abusive and threatening language towards him. On the case being called accused was not present, and a warrant was issued for her iimnediate'appearance. On her being brought before the Court, complainant stated that accused, on Monday evening when ho returned from his work stuck him up and a9ked him to shout for her. Ho said he was a Good Templar, and had not drunk anything for over two years. Accused then called him all manner of names. Both parties lived close to one another, and complainant stated that

lie had been subjeted to abuse from accused on several previous occasions. A witness was called, who stated that aecused was a complete nuisance to the whole neighbourhood on account of her language and conduct. Sergeant-Major O'Grady gave accused a very bad character as to her general conduct, and stated that she wob a thorough nuisance to the neighbourhood where sho lived. A petition signed by » number of the residents in the immediate

neighbourhood of the accused, praying the Bench to take such steps as would put a stop to the nuisance caused by the accused, had been received by the Bench, and was read in the Court. The Bench remarked that accused had been before the Court previously, and was evidently a thorough nuisance in the part of the town where she lived, and ordered her to pay a fine of £3, or, in default, one month'* hard labour in Addington gaol.
