The other candidates are Messrs T. Bruce, John O'Neill, F. W. Staples, and T. York. Captain Grundy, of the Torea, informs us that he has got rid of the ballast from his vessel, and that the majority of his cargo for. Auckland is aboard. He is also anxious to get back to Auckland in time for the regatta at that r port, but espressos his anxiety and readiness to try conclusions with the Alert at any futui'e time that may be fixed, the race to be sailed outside the heads. He is : now waiting instructions from his owner as to what course to take. • . Sanitaby Committee. — At a meeting of :the Sanitary Committee held this morning, present Councillors Wilson (chairman), Tremayne and Binstead, the question of the sanitary condition of the south side of the South belt, remitted from the Council,- was considered at length, and in connection therewith a letter received from the Local ! Board of Health, drawing attention to the .present unsatisfactory state of the aidechannels in the locality of the belt. After considerable discussion, the Committee arrived at the conclusion that as the nuisance complained of was created by the residents of the Borough of Sydenhani, who paid their rates to the Borough Council, it wastheduty of that Council to contribute their ''share of the cost towards keeping half of the South belt in order. A unanimous decision was arrived at that the Cduricil be recommended tp v take no action in the matter. At the same time the Committee would recommend the Council to comj)lete the work of channelling and asphalting the north side of the belt in justice to the Burgesses of that portion of the city. .
