[special.] Jan. 3. Mr G. M. Reed, Immigration Agent, visited the Katikati settlement, and expressed himself highly pleased with its prospects. Over 20 persons have been drowned in the Northern Wairoa within 12 months. Tho amount of gold sold from the Thames district last year was 61,6070z5, being 5192 ozs less than the quantity raised last year. During the month of December 2532 tons of quartz were crushed, y idling 44050zs 6dwts 1 12gra of melted gold.
