The Nativo revolt took place in the districts of Ourail and Boularpari, distant 00 nnd 90 miles from here, on June 25. The first intimation of the outburst whioh reached Noumea was a report that five gensd'armes on guard at Foua River, near Ourail had been attacked and murdered j.next fchut. a. murderous assault had boen made upon the <( Colons" farmers, and every white resident in the neighbourhood killed. The Ourail Government immediately telegraphed for troops to be despatched to the scene of conflict. The following day news was received that the environs of Ouraii were in flames. Twenty-five whites were known to have been massacred, and the revolt was spreading towards Boularpari, thirty miles nearer Noumea. On June 27, intelligence came of the massacre of " Colons " and other residents at Boularpari, and the surrounding distri :ts. Fugitives began to an ive in town, and tie excitement was intense, verging during the day on a panic. 'Mounted volunteers armed by Government, arrived to find the place in ashes, and corpses lying in every direction, cut and hacked horribly. Family after family were found murdered in heaps, no mercy having been shown. Men, women, and children treacherously surprised were alike victims. Tho Canala natives are taking up arms against the revolted tribe, headed by their great, chiefs Gelimah and Kaka. The military, gensd'armes', and a large number of armed civilians arc now in pursuit, and 150 friendly, natives arc aiding to surround the rebels. News from Boularpari sUites that the natives made an attack on a band of convicts, seeing them guarded by only four sailors. The convicts were, however, all brought in except one, who was killed, and a surveillant wounded. The sailors killed chjht natives. Information has been received of the utter destruction of tho large village of Narai by our men. Eugene, a friendly chief of the Paita district, captured six revolted natives and delivered them to the military, by whom they were executed. July 5. There is no extension of the revolt, and the Vanats are being gradually hum sued in on all sides. A large military camp i- 1 to be formed at Boularpari. Noumea is now perfectly calm. July 7. The latest news is that yesterday Si houses belonging to the rebel natives had been burnt near Boularpari, and tliat some captives were taken and executed. The names of nearly 100 victims to the savages are given.
