*__ OHRISTOHUROH. This Day. (Before G. L. Mellisb, Esq., R.M., and J. Studholme, Esq.) The Court opened afc 11 o'clock. Drunkenness. — An inebriate, who appeared for the first time, was fined ss. Lunacy from Drink.— Charles Oraythorn was remanded to Ljttelton for eight days for medical treatment. Assault. — Samuel Paul was charged with having assaulted a little boy named H. J. Cherverson. The affair had arisen out of a disagreement between the children of accused, and Mr Cbervereon who are neighbours at Avonside. A quarrel had taken place among the children, and accused being annoyed at the manner in which complainant had treated one of his sons chastised him. The assault was of a trivial character, and the case was dismissed, accused to pay costs. Of_.en_.ing Husbanbs. — An application from Mrs Hannam for a protection order against her husband Joseph Hannam, was adjourned, as neither parfcy appeared, and tho Bench deemed ifc necessary fchafc inquiries should be made into fche reason for their nofc doing so. — Mra Brighting applied for an order against her husband, S. S. Brighting, for maintenance and protection of earnings. Applicant said, her husband, who did not appear, was an habitual drunkard, and did not contribute towards tho support of herself and four children. The application was granted — the amount to be contributed by Brighting being fixed at £2 per week. Slaughter House Licenses. The following applications were granted : — H. P. This Day. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. — James Lomsden, arrested by Constable Moufcray ; and John Loader, arrested by Constable Johnston, were eaoh fined 10- ; or, in default, 48 hours' imprisonment with hard labour.
