Beeaking into and Stealing fbom a Dwelling. — Jamea Davis, on remand, was brought up on a chargo of this nature. Samuel Carter, an engine-drivor on tho Malvern Railway, who slept m one of the Government cottng-js at Rolleston, left home on the morning of July 1, and on returning in tho evening, missed a rovolver, German concertina, meerschaum pipe, pair of dark tweed trousers, pair of elastic-eido boots, black felt hat, cheese-cutter cap, two bluo serge jaokets, and waist belt with an S bucklo ; the valuo of the wholo being about £50. About two o'clock on the day in question, Mr Ranger, landlord of the Rolleston Hotel, saw prisoner go into the cottage, and return shortly afterwards with a bundle undor his arm. In the morning, he had a pair of moleskin trousors on, hut when he came from the cottage to tho hotel, he was wearing a pair of dark trousers. After stopping a short timo at tho hotol, prisoner and another man, who soomed to bo his mate, went away in a dray. Carter also identified the pipe given by prisoner to Thornae, and a belt with an S clasp, which prisoner was wearing when arrested by Detective Kirby, as part of the missing pro- j perty.
