Tho annual goneral meeting of the mombors of tho Philosophical Instituto of Canterbury took plaoo lasfc ovening afc fcho Publio Library, tho ohair boing oooupiod by fche President, Dr Powell. On the motion of the Rev 0. Frasor,sooondcd by Dr Von Haasfc, ifc was resolved — " That, honorary members on ooming to reside in fcho Oolony may becomo ordinary mombors without ballot on the pigment of fcho annual subscription during the firsfc year of fchoir residenoe." Dr Haasfc was appointed to voto on tho olection of Governors of tho Now Zealand Institute Tho annual roporfc and balancesheet wero then road and adopted, Tho following offioers woro ©looted for the year, 1877— President, Dr Julius Von Haast, F.RS ; Vioo'Prosidonts, Dr Powell, and Professor Biokorton ; Mombors of Counoil, in plaoo of thoso who retired, Dr Coward, Mr Hall, and Profossor Oook; Hon. Treasurer, Mr J. Inglis; Hon. Sooretary, Mr J. S. Guthrie ; Auditors, Messrs W. D. Carruthers, and C. R. Blakiston. On fcho motion of Dr Haasfc, sooondod by Dr Coward, Dr S. Borgron was olootod an honorary mombor of fche New Zealand Institute. , Mr Foroday suggostod tho desirability of occasionally holding meotings of tho Institute in various parts of tho Provinoo, and the mattor met with (ho gonoral approval of those prosent. ■*■
