Larobny of Jkwbllbby. •— Thomw A. HasseU and William .Cassidy, chawed with

the above offence, were again remanded for eight days, in order that the -prosecutor, now in Southland, might be present. Lahcbnt.— Alfred Sent was charged with having committed an offence cf this kind at Papanui, the article stolen being a purse of money. On the application of Inspector Buckley, prisoner was remanded for eight days. Dbunkbnnbss.— Two inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss. — John Johnston, for being drunk and disorderly, was ordered to pay 10s. — John Turner, for being drunk while in oharge of a horse, and for vising abusive language, was fined 20s.

A Sbbibs of Labcbnies — Solomon Boos was oharged with stealing-* sheet. The gaoler of the Lyttelton Gaol, Sergeant- Major O'Gr&dy, deposed that on August 23, he saw piisoner in the Lyttelten Hotel. He had a sheet in his hand, whioh he was trying to sell to the landlord for a shilling. Elizabeth Blythe deposed her husband kept a boardinghouse in the Whately road. Accnied had been staying at her house for a few days. The sheet produced was her property. Prisoner was then oharged with stealing a musical box and a cash box. Mary Mersen, servant to Mr Charles Williams, Armagh street, deposed to going from the house with her mistress a few days ago. The back door was left unlooked. On returning she found a small box (produced) was lying on the bed, broken open. Edward Peroy, barman at the Garriok Hotel: On Angust 17, prisoner asked witness to buy the musical box produced, which he did. Prisoner was then further oharged with stealing a workbox. Anna Jane Bolton, who resides in Armagh street, deposed that, a few days ago, on returning to her hous , she missed a workbox, which was now produced. Ellen O'Leary, who resides at Lea's Boarding-house in Kilmore street, deposed that, on Monday, August 21, the prisoner, who wai a shipmate of her*s, told her the box produced. Witness gave him £1 for it. Prisoner had nothing to say in answer to this oharge. Prisoner was then oharged with stealing another ladies' work-box. Isaac Zacharisb. Babbi to the Jewish Congregation, deposed : On August 22, he went to witness for assistance, and he relieved him. Mrs Zachariah identified the box produced as her property. Fred. Ashton, a blacksmith, living at Lyttelton, deposed that, on August 23, he purchased the box produoed from the prisoner. The prisoner was sentenced to three months' imprison* ment on each charge, making twelve months in all.

Assault. — Timothy Collins was oharged with assaulting Walter Lloyd on the Ferry road, and breaking a picture then in his possession, value 7« 6d. From the evidence given by the complainant it appeared that on the day in question he saw the defendant leaning over a fence in the Ferry road, and, not knowing what he might be after, he pot the question to him. Defendant then turned round and violently assaulted him. The Court found him guilty, and ordered him to pay a fine of £8, together with 6s 6d costs, and 7» 6d tbe amount of damage done.
