GREAT FIRE AT GRAHAMSTOWN.
Gbahamstown, August 28. A flro broke out on the Boaoh road, Grahamstown, whioh destroyed the Kuranui Hotel and storo, belonging to Patorson, also a grocer's and blacksmith's shop, and a number of other tenements. The soono of tho fire was Tory thiokly built upon, large crushing mills and powerful mining maohinery (including tho United Pumping Association's plant) being in close proximity. The Fire Brigades wore promptly on tho spot, and the exertions made by the employSs of tho Pumping Association and others wore effootual in boating tho flro down in about one hour, and so preventing its spreading. Bosidoe tho number of buildings in tho neighbourhood of tho flro, there is a network of wooden tramways oreotod over tho road close to whore tho fire ooourrcd, and fears wore ontortainod that they would go t as well as the Pumping Association's property; but this disaster was averted, tho hydraulio engine of tho Association boing a valuables help in putting out thp flro. It is bolioved that the flro originated in tho Kuranui Hotol, at prosont unoccupied. Patoraon and others will bo serious losers. Later. There appears to bo little doubt but that the flro yestorday morning was tho work of an inoendiary, and originated in the Kuranui Hotel, which was tho only building insured. It was insured in tho Standard offioo for £450. An inquest will be hold. WelijlN«ton, August 28. Information has been laid against and a warrant issuod for tho arrest of 0. E. Yesterday forenoon portions of a wrook were found in Constant and Sooond-Bays. Shortly afterwards tho shattered bull of a small vessel was obsorvod in tho roadstoad, drifting northward. Part of tho oombings of tho hatohway, and dock beams of a vessol of about 40 tons, planks, and two piecos of hoad*rails wore pioked up with tho lottors "FLY" painted in white. No doubt tho wrookago is a portion of tho Flying Cloud, of Lyttelton, whioh oamo hero early on Saturday, in ballast, with a strong breezo from the northeast. Tho wind was unsteady, and probably tho vessel oapsizod in a squall, and was drifted on to the rooks near the FourMile Eiver. A boat was pioked up noar Brighton.
