SPBETDON.
A meeting of the Spreydon Boad Board wis> held on Tuesday, Aug. 1; present— Means Tanored, Bell, Barton, and Fantham. Letters were read — From Mr Taylor, complaining of the footpaths in Colombo and Haielden roads. The Serreyor said he had attended to thematter.—From Mr J. A. Cunningham, hoc. seo. to Conference of Chairmen of Boad Boards, with copy of resolution passed by thai: Body — ra : "That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable that Boad Boards of the province should hare an opportunity through their Chairman of expn sting an opinion upon tbo proposals of the General Government, with regard to local administration." Mr Tanored laid that a meeting would take place that day to consider the Bills nH wired. The Board decided not to express any opinion on the matter at present. — From Mr Beaven, requesting the Board to improre the footpath on the Town belt. Besotted, that the City Council be written to about the matter. — From Mr Craig, advising that the premium on the insnranoe of the office would be due on August 8. — From the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand, advising that the Provincial Government had paid in £300 to the Board's credit.— From the Secretary for Publio Works, advising that the Provincial Engineer did not recommend red lights Mag placed on the railway gates, a« it might mislead drirers and frighten timid horses.—Another stating that a cart-crossing over the railway at Durham street will be made at once.— From Mr Vennall, complaining of water standing in the side channel in Durham street, near the Haseldan road. Be jolved— " That Messrs Buxton, Bell, and the Surveyor inspect the place." — A rate of ninepenco in the £ was made, and ordered to be leri«>d, and the rate lilt approTed by the Board snd signed by tha Chairman.— The Collector was directed to appoint a day and place and attend to> reeetre rates, and advertise the sameagfiflje'days P»* ▼ions. Accounts to the amouofe»£s4 9s 4d were passed for payment, aa& the Board adjourned.
