CHRISTCHUROH. , - This Day. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Dbunkenness.— John Sullivan, arrested by Constable Hughes, was brought up, charged ; with drunkenness, using obscene language in a public thoroughfare, and resisting the polico in the execution of their duty. The constable said that he saw prisoner drunk, and creating a disturbance outside the Criterion Hotel, about 10 o'clock last night, and .on being requeated to move away, he made use of very obscene language towards a man in the hotel. Witnesss then arrested him, and he went quietly until he got •'■ into Cathedral square, when he sprang away, ; pulled off all his clothes to the waist, aud it was only after fighting about fifteen minutes — during which time prisoner had witness down twice— that witness succeeded in securing him. Prisoner, in defence, v said a man had taken some money • from Mm at the Criterion Hotel, and it was that which caused him to be so disorderly. His Worship said prisoner's conduct had been very bad, but as this was prisoner's first appearance, before the Court, he would only be fined 20s>-Matthew Percy, arrested by Constable Hughes, for being drunk and disorderly was • also brought up. The constable said he arrested prisoner in front of the Theatre, last night, and that he was in a very drunken state. A fine of 10s was imposed. ' . • . . •
