Acclimatisation.— The Taranaki Herald of tbo 25th ult. states : — A.n Acclimatisation Society was formed by a few gentlemen after the Provincial Council rose on Thursday last. We are glad to see thafc our constant advocacy of the subject; has had the desired effect at last, and we feci sure, with the energetic committeo appointed, that ifc will bo a success. ; A letter was read by the Speaker in the Council on Friday last, from Mr E. B. Dickson, who is now the Secretary of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, in which is explained the difficulty of carrying young trout from one part of the colony to another, and suggest 1 -ig that it might be found more feasible to remove the young fry during the first fifty days after hatching, that is, prior to the absorption of tho yolk sac, because up to that pomt 1 no feeding is required, and tho only attention necessary is the changing of the water. This might be effected pri board the steamer, so, as to be self-acting. Mr Dickson kindly offers to procure some ova for hatching -from Tasmania for the province, if application is made tp'him tp do so. yy We Z'have' nq doubt that whei'thl.'iabbhrfl i of theCouhcil are dyer, the Acclimatisation Society will be got under "weigh, and that Mr Dickson's kind offer of assistance will be taken advautago of."
