CHRISTCHURCH CITY ELECTION. * REQUISITION OF ELECTORS TO i M. B. HART, ESQ. "TVEAR SIR,— We, the Electors of the - L -'C-_hf of Christchurch, beg respectfully to request tkat you will allow yourself to be nominated for one of the vacant seats as a Representative of Christchurch in the Provincial Council. From your long residence in this city, your intimate acquaintance with its municipal institutions, and the interest you have at all times shown in the welfare of its citizens, we feel assured that, should we bo fortunate'-* enough to secure your services, we should obtain an energetic and independent member, who would bring to. bear an influence that -. would be of the utmost benefit, not only to the citiaens of Christchurch, but to the province at large. In the event of your reply being favourable to our request, we shall have much pleasure iv using our influence to secure your return. Incompliance with the wish of the large number of influential gentlemen signing the above requisition, I most cordially thank them for their kind consideration and confidence, and announce that I intend to offer myself as a candidate to represent the City of Chrißtchurch in the next Provincial Council. Tho legislative power of the Council having to a great extent, been transferred to the General Aseembly it appears to mo that the chief qualities, now required as a member of the Council are practical common sense, and the power to judge how the large revenue of the province may be expended with the greatest benefit to tho community. I flatter myself that the experience I have gained during a residence of twenty-three years, and tho time I have held the offices of Councillor and Mayor of Christchurch can be used tQ advantage. The health and convenience of the Citizens require mfiny pressing improvements, which cannot now be carried out for want of funds, and if returned as one of the members of the Provincial Council, it will be my first object to obtain for the City the revenues derived from wholesale dealers, hotel and auctioneer licenses,' and dog tax, all of which are in most of the chief towns of the colony granted to the municipal authorities. I shall also uso my best endeavours to obtain a landed endowment for the benefitof the City similar to that obtained by other municipalities. The interest I have always taken in the development of local industries should afford a sufficient guarantee that, if elected, I shall exert myself to the utmost of my ability to forward .those industries, and thus promote the welfare of my fellow citizens. I have the honour to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, 758 M. B. HART. , TO THE ELECTORS OP 0 H R I S T C H U RCH. GENTLEMEN,— At the request of my • many supporters and friends, I beg to offer jnyself again as a candidate for re-election. , to represent you in the Provincial Council. Should you honour me by re-election, my , t attention and best efforts shall be in your cause and tbat of the province. Your obedient servant, 762 SAML. P. ANDREWS. THE ELECTORS OF PAPANUL DEAR SIRS,— I trust you will again do me the honour of returning me as one of the representatives for the District in the Provincial Council. I intend shortly to hold meetings in several parts of tho District. Yours truly, , H. WYNN WILLIAMS.
