Ciecus. — Last night Mr Murray's circus was re-opened in tho paddock opposite the' Criterion Hotel, Gloucester street, and not- 1 withstanding the disturbing influences of the fire in High street, there was a fair house. The circus will be open again this evening. Theatre Koyal. — Boucicault's drama of the " Octoroon " was submitted at this place of amusement last night, and taken altogether may be said to have been fairly played. Canterbury Music Hall yesterday afternoon, resolutions in favour of the purchase of the* Cathedral site for the erection of public buildings were carried by acclamation. Sons of Temperance. — The by-laws of fche •'' Perseverance Division " of fche Sons of Temperance having been duly registered under tho Friendly Societies Act, a special summoned meeting of the Division was held las! evening for the purpose of appointing a Medical Oflicer to the Division when Di* Campbell was elected. Tho Division now numbers nearly 70 members, ifc is entirely free from debt, and has a considerable sum _in vested. The necessary preliminaries for opening other Divisions in Canterbury are nearly completed, and steps have been taken for opening Divisions in Nelson and Wellington. The jurisdiction of tho Vice-Deputy Most Worthy Patriarch has been extended so as to include thoso provinces. International Exhibition. — The New Zealand Gazelle announces thafc tho third of the scries of annual International Exhibitions of select works of line art (including music), industrial art, and recent scientific inventions and discoveries under tho direction of H. M. Commissioners for the Exhibition ot 1851, will be opened at South Kensington, London, in April 1873. Tho Exhibition will consist of three divisions— l . Eino arts 2. Manufactures. 3 "Recent scientific inventions and new discoveries. Tho productions of all nations will be admitted subject to the decision of competent judges as to their being worthy of exhibition, and provided they have not been exhibited in the previous International Exhibitions ot the series. I Local Industries. — The New Zealand I Gazette of Nov. 18, contains the following bonuses offered for the encouragement of certain colonial industries: — Iron — bonusof £5000 I for fche production in New Zealand of 1000 tons weight of pig iron of marketable quality. I Steel, bonus of £1000 for the production in New Zealand of 100 tons weight of marketable steel, from magnetic or Titaniforous iron sand or iron ore. Svgar — bonus of £2000. for the production of 250 tons of sugar, manufactured from beetroot in Now Zealand, j Paper — Bonus of £2500 for tho production of 100 tons of printing paper, manufactured in New Zealand, by machinery. "Fish — Bonus of 4s per cwt. This bonus will bo paid on cured fish, , dry or pickled, exported from the colony for consumption abroad. Tho above rewards will be paid on tho certificate of an officer appointed i by the Government that the conditions appli- 1 cable to each reward havo been complied with. The Lotals. — M. Loyal and Mademoiselle Zuilla havo arrived in Christchurch, and will make their debut at the Theatre Royal tomorrow evening. Proposed Street Tramway. —At the meeting of the City Council last evening, it was resolved that the sanction of the Council should not be given to the construction of a tramway through the streets of Christchurch. ConsuLjVr Agent. — It is notified in a New Zealand Gazette of Nov. 21 that the Secretary of State for the Colonies has instructed the Governor to recognise the appointment of Mr Laning Coate3 as Consular Agent for the United States at Christchurch.
