Tho following appointments aro gazetted : — Mr Laning Coatos, Consular Agent of the United States afc Christchurch ; Mr John Ollivier, to audit fche accounts of the Registrar under fcho Lunatics Act, also auditor of the ! Courts of Law Trust Accounts. Mr Curtis met his constituents at fcho Provincial Hall lasfc evening. There was a I good attendance, and he spoke 80 minutes. Ho was well received. The Hon. N. Edwards moved a vote of thanks and confidence, which was carried by acclamation. Greymouth, Nov. 21. The exact quantity of melted gold from the lasfc crushing of tho Ajax claim, Inangahua, was 6060zs 16dwts. At the meeting of tho company, yesterday, a dividend amounting to £2500 was declared. Timaru, Nov. 21. The polling for a member for Geraldine terminated as follows : — Hayhurat — Temuka, 68 ; Geraldine, 20. Bullock— Temuka, 34 ,• Geraldine, 13. Murdoch M'Lean was found this morning drowned in the Washdyke Creek. There was a heavy piece of iron round his neck. His hat was in his pocket, and all his money — some sixty pounds — was gone. An inquest will bo held this afternoon. The party searching for M'Lean tbis morning found in a creek near Mount Horrible, sixteen miles from Timaru, the body of another man, which had been lying there apparently four or five days. Invebcabgill, Nov. 21. Donald Morrison, convicted afc the Supreme Court on Tuesday of manslaughter, was sentenced to-day to eighteen months' imprisonment with hard labour. Bluef, Nov. 21.
