The following telegram was put on board the Rangitoto at Port Phillip Heads : — London, Dec. 12. An Australian meat dinner was held afc Southampton, the Mayor presiding. ■ There were three hundred guests. Four hundred labourers have embarked for New Zealand. Mr Hassal is appointed GermaD Consul for Canterbury. Vanderdecken is the winner of the Liverpool Cup.
