Moxday, Nov. 13. The Council met at the usual hour. Present — His Worslitp- : - the Mayor, and Councillors Pratt, Joues, Bishop, Sawtell, Calvert, Hart, Anderson, and Hobbs. The Town Clerk reported that the overdraft amounted to £1032 lls 4d. Receipts — From the rate collector, general city rates, 186S, 15s ; 18(39, 'Is— l9s ; 1870, £-1 lls ; 1871, £51 3s ; Waimakariri do, £8 10s 2d ; stage carriage and drivers' licenses, £13 ; rent from market place, 7s. Total receipts, £78 10s 2d ; wages, &c, £89 8s Gd. Tenders for the formation of a footpath, and side drain in Antigua street, &c. (25 chains) were opened and decided. Tenders for painting the fencing in Latimei squire were opened and decided. /On the motion of Councillor Ifarb, it was resolved that Cashel street, from Madras street towards Barbadoes street, be stone? channelled.^ It was rofolved that notice should be given to the owners of property where nuisances existed, to fill up the hollow places, and it was further decided that the City Council should take steps to fill up the hollow places on their own property. With regard to the urinal in Gloucester street, it was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Jones, seconded by Councillor Hart, that the Town Clerk should write to Mr Moir, stating that the Council were prepared to erect a urinal in the place indicated, upon his giving the. Council a good tenure for seven years. On the motion of Councillor Anderson, the clause in the Surveyor's report with, reference to the Avon Road Board was referredto the Works Committee, in order to see what could be done in the matter. The remainder of the report was approved. A letter was read from Mr ¥. E. Wright, Chief Postmaster, stating that he would feel obliged if , the Council could make a few 1 alterations and additions in the gas fittings in the Post Office, and also to cause the notices i over the posting boxes, &c, to be re-painted. The Works Committee was empowered to do the required work. A let! or was read from M. Aehillc Fleury, lessee of the Theatre Royal, asking permission to use a small illuminated box, suspended ! securely over the pavement in Gloucester street, every evaning from 7.30 until the I close of the performances. The box would be taken down every "night and only replaced for use during the specified time. The request was refused. 4n. driver's license was granted to John Miller* ; Coimcillor Bishop moved the rescinding of the resolution passed by the Council at a former meeting, re Messrs Deßourbel and Co.'s request to erect a balcony in front of their premises in Cathedral square, and that Mr Deßourbel be referred to clause 5 in the Act, having reference to such erections, for his guidance. Councillor Jones seconded the motion. Councillor Pratt supported the motion. Councillor Hobbs also supported the motion. Councillor Hart said he would not oppore the motion, but he hoped it would be perfectly understood that the Council, in rescinding the resolution, did not sanction the request made by Mr Deßourbel. Councillor Anderson said ho woidd not oppose the motion. Councillor Sawtell was of the same ophvon as that expressed by Councillor Hart. Further, he could not vote for the rescinding of the resolution. The motion of Councillor Bishop was carried. ' Tho Council then adjourned.
