There is a moral taught by the following conversation which needs to be learned by many fathers. Said a little four-year-old, " Mother, father won't be in heaven with us, will he ?" " Why not, my child ?" " Because he can't leave the shop." A little song of thankfulness suggested by seeing my wife put on her crinoline and chignon : — I thank the goodness and the grace Upon my birth that smiled, , And made me, in this favoured land, A masculine gender child. Like pious Moslem, fate I thank For all my blessings human ; And with that Turk, each morn I say, "Thank heaven I'm not a woman I"
