Ferry Road. —It is announced that Joseph James Neave,a minister of the Society of Friends, will give an account of a visit to America during the late war in the Christian chapel to-morrow evening, at 7.30. The Mayor of Christchurch will preside. Licensed Victuallers' Association. — Those who took pari in the performance on Thursday last— amateurs and members of the Association — are requested to attend a meeting at the Clarendon to-morrow evening, at 7.30. Heathcote Rowing Club. — The first of the series of entertainments given by this club came off on Thursday evening. The Rev. G. J. Cholmondeley (vice president) occupied the chair, and there were about 140 persons present. v The Weather. — Yesterday morning a """'heavy southerly gale set in and continued with much violence up to midday. In the city several shop windows were damaged, but not to any great extent. At Lyttelton, the boats were unable to go off to the Lord Ashley; but so far as we are at present informed, no damage was done to the shipping in harbour beyond the swamping of a few boats. •^jTAccident. — A serious accident happened on Saturday afternoon to a seaman on board the barque William Ackers. The man was aloft and, missing his hold, fell on to the companion. He was picked up insensible, and brought ashore. As Lyttelton possesses no accident ward, the man, although sensible when brought ashore, was obliged to be kept in the boat untila doctor cou'd be obtained. Dr Donald directed the man to be taken to • the Railway Station, and he was eventually sent to Christchurch Hospital.
