THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.

♦ Up to the time of going to press, •we had received no intimation of the mail's arrival at Nelson. On consulting our flies, we find that the June San Francisco mail arrived at Auckland at 5 a.m. on July 15, and at Nelson late at night on July 16, the summary having been telegraphed from there on July 17. Th« July mail arrived at Auckland on Aug. I*, at 2 p.m., and at Nelson late at night on Aug. 16. It was telegraphed from there on Aug. 17. The August mail arrived at Auckland on Sept. 13, and at Nelson about 10 p.m. on Sept. 15. It was telegraphed from there a few minutes afterwards. It will be seen from the above that the June mail was received in Auckland about 35 days from San Francisco, and that the telegraphic summary reached Christchurch on the 37th day. The July mail also took 35 days to Auckland, and also reached us on the 37th day. The August mail was 34 days from San Francisco, and the summary was received in Christchurch on the 36th day. The mail now so anxiously looked for would of course leave San Francisco on Sept. 10, and allowing 35 days to Auckland, which is the outside time the trunk steamers

have yet taken, it wa« due there to-day, and will be due at Nelson late to-morrow night. If we allow 34 days to Auckland, the steamer was due there yesterday, and should reach Nelson late to-night. The Auckland people appear to have expected the steamer on Thursday, the 13th, thus allowing her 33 days. An Auckland telegram, dated the 13th, 9.30 a.m., and received to-day via, Wanganui, says there were then no signs of the California steamer. The foregoing facts will enable the public to form a pretty accurate forecast about the mail's arrival.
