' [by beuteb's expbess.] London, Aug. 12. Discount, is at s£. Consols for money at 91 to 91-J, and for account, 91ito9]f. The next wool sales commence on Oct. 27. The arrivals to date are 68,523 bales, afloat, 35,232 bales. The total quantity for disposal, including wools held over, is expected to reach 210,000 bales. The sales made yesterday comprised 2040 bales ; 7814 bales were withdrawn, owing to the thin attendance. The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank has declared a dividend of 7 per cent. According to the latest cable news gold closed in New York at 117^. SPECIAL FOE NEW ZEALAND. "Wheat, at latest dates, was reduced in price by 5s per quarter. The quotations are now about 7s per bushel. The harvest throughout England promises to be very good. At the seventh annual meeting of the New Zealand Trust and Loan Company, a dividend of 5s per share was declared, which is equal to ten per cent. Messrs Selfe and Penning, the retiring directors, were re-elected. The auditors were also re-elected. The Bank of Otago has reduced the deficit of capital to about £7000. The following quotations are dated Aug. 9 :— Bank of New Zealand, £17 to £19 ; Union Bank of Australia, £38 to £40; Bank of Australasia, £50 to £52 ; Bank of . New South "Wales, £37 to £39. On the same date New Zealand sixes (1891) were quoted at 105 to 108 ; fives, at 93 to 95 ; Victorian bonds at 108 to 111. Sales of .New Zealand flax show a decline for common and medium sorts. Good bright parcels are fairly supported at £20 14s to £31 ; common and medium, at £14 to £20 ; rough, at £10 to £13. The prices obtained for wool average about the same as last sales. The quantity of New Zealand wool arrived for next sales ib 16,500 bales. Tallow fluctuated during the month. The closing prices were as follows : — Mutton, fair to good, 43s to 43s 6d ; beef, fair to good, 42s to 42s 6d.
