J$ Hokitika, Sept. 24, 9.30 a.m. A prisoner, named John Vincent, a coloured man, who was sentenced to 21 years' imprisonment at Lard labour in May, 1867, for an attempt at murder, escaped from custody yesterday. He was with the hard labour gang, when he suddenly disappeared in the bush. The police are in pursuit, but he has not yet been recaptured.
