* "Wellington, Sept. 22, 7.50 p.m. Ifc is said that the Government intend to avoid re-assembling Parliament by instructing Registration Officers to prepare the rolls for the districts as intended, and not as described in the Act. The dwelling-house of Thomas Hank, farmer, Greytown, was burned last night. Timaetj, Sept. 22, 2.38 p.m. The plant of the Timaru Landing and Shipping Company was sold by auction to-day, and realised £975. Captain Cain was the purchaser. The Beautiful Star arrived yesterday afternoon, and sails for Lyttelton at 4 p.m. to-day. His Honor the Superintendent is a passenger by her. Hokitika, Sept. 22, 4.30 p.m. On entering the river last night the Martha and Lavinia, from Hobarton, struck on the north spit, but sustained no damage. She was towed off this morning. The Sarah and Mary sailed at 8 a.m. for Melbourne. This vessel was detained several days owing to the tug Lioness being stuck on a shingle bank on the river. The bank increases rapidly. The Lioness was released this morning, and proceeded to Westport after towing out the Sarah and Mary.
