.» Land Tkansfer Act. — Mr W. S. Moorhouse lias accepted the appointment of Chief Registrar of Titles under the above Act. This, we believe, will render it necessary for Mr Moorhouse to reside permanently in Wellington. lp Serious Accident. — We regret to record a serious accident to Mr James Innes, lan Jlord of the George and Dragon Hotel, Templeton. It appears that Mr Innes was engaged in putting up a stack, when, by some means not yet explained, he fell on a sharp pitch-fork, the prongs of which entered his groin. Christchdkch Band op Hope. — The usual fortnightly meeting was held in the Temperance Hall last evening. There was a good attendance. Mr Thompson occupied the chair. Dr Allen and Mr W. H. De la Mare gave readings, and Mrs Bntterfield and others sang several melodies with good effect. At tha close of the meeting the secretary announced that the committee of the Christchurch Total Abstinence Society had decided to give prizes for the best recitation, to be given in about a month's time. Heathcote Rowing Club — A special general meeting was held at the schoolroom, Terry Road, on Wednesday, the 21st inst., at 7 o'clock, Mr F. Pavitt in the chair. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The following new members were elected, viz., Messrs Edwin Bamford, Simmonds, W. Langdown, R. Davis, Wm. Kennawny, Wm. Montgomery, W. L. Whitby, H. Palmer, R. Loughnan, Charles Freeman, Thos. M'Mahon, Capt Charlesworth, the Rev G. J. Cholmondeley, and Mr Alfred Sheath (cox.). The following officers were elected, viz., Mr Joshua S. Williams as president ; Messrs Montgomery and Loughnan and the Rev G. J. Cholmondeley vice-presidents ; Messrs Richard Davis, E. Garland, and Wm. Kennaway trustees; Mr J. W. Davi3 vicecommodore; and Mr Thomas Roberta custodian. The committee were authorised to purchase the pair- oared boat Stranger, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mr Cuff, declining his offer, with thanks. It was resolved that the commodore should represent the club to arrange for the opening of the season After a vote of thanks to the chairman, the meeting was adjourned tine die.
