By a telegram from Kaiapoi, we learn that Ithe p.s. Sturt, belonging to Messrs Belcher and Fairweather, went ashore while attempting to take the bar yesterday afternoon. She is now a total wreck, having gone to pieces during the night. Both hull and cargo are insured.
The smart schooner Kaiuma, Captain Maule, arrived in port yesterday, having, as usual, made a remarkably smart passage, con sidering the light airs and calms she experienced. The schooner left Lyttelton on Sunday, the 1 1 th inst., and for the first few hours experienced light S.E. airs and calms. After being outside the headß for five hours the weather fell calm, and remained in that position until Tuesday noon, when got light airs from the southward; passed Table Island on the same day at 6.30 p.m.; shortly afterwards passed the Charlotte, cutter, bound to Charleston, and carried a light southerly breeze to Stevens Island. From thence N. and N.W. winds were experienced, blowing light the whole of the time, and on this side of the Coast, light airs and calms. Arrived off the port yesterday, and was towed inside by the s.s. Waipara, on yesterday's tide. The Kaiuma brings a cargo of produce. — West Coast Times, Sept. 20.
