ELECTION OF CITY COUNCILLORS.
« To-day there has been an election of three City Councillors, caused by the retirement, by rotation, of Mr A. Duncan (the Mayor), and Messrs Jameson and Gos*. The two lastnamed gentlemen offered themselves for reelection, and there were also four new candidates, viz.: Messrs T. D. Jonts, F. Hobbs, A. Ayers, and H. Bennetts. The poll was opened at 8 o'clock, and all the candidates, either in person or by agents, soon began an active canvass of the burgesses as they approached for their votes, which continued during the day, and was conducted with the . utmost fairness and good temper. The poll closed as follows : — Jameson ... 485 Ayres ... 411 Hobbs ... 475 Goßs ... 410 Jones .. 438 Bennetts ... 158 Messrs Jameson, Hobbs, and Jones, were therefore declared duly elected.
