f — * — Q Dunedin, Sept. 5, 3.25 p.m. The Acclimatisation Society received last night, from Hobart Town, a shipment of 1000 brown trout ova ; 100 salmon trout ova, and 18 English perch. Auckland, Sept. 2, via Napier, Sept. 5. On Aug. 30, Judge Munro, of the Native Lands Court, with a large party of suitors and visitors, went down to Ohinemuri, per steamer Challenger, to open the Native Lands Court. On the 31sfc they came back to Shortland, having landed the chairs and paraphernalia for the Court. Mere Kuru and his women reshipped them, and requested the steamer to leave at once. They waited over night, but Mere Kuru was determined the Court should not be held. There is great disappointment and dissatisfaction. The chiefs whom the bailiffs are after for debt are still afc large. The Native meeting soon to be held at Tokangamutu, will, it is expected, be very large. Two hundred Ara was and Titokowaru and party will be there. It is reported that King Tawhiao has left the Ngatimaniapoto tribe to decide whether the telegraph should pass over Maori land. The Harmon has arrived from Lyttelton. Long Drives, which were at £9 yesterday, are at £11 to-day. They have a downward teudeucy again. Caledonias, which were selling at £10 last week, are at £20 to-day. It is reported that they have struck the Golden Crown reef. Mr Gr. W. Binney reports wheat scarce at 4s 9d to 5s : oats firm at 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; flour, £14 ; cheese, 9d ; butter very dull at 9d ; bacon firm at 9d ; hams, lOd to lld ; oatmeal scarce at £19 10s. Wellington, Sep. 5, 7.40 p.m. The Legislatve Council has passed the Public Works Bill with amendments, one of which limits the amount of money to be expended up to 31st Dec, 1871, on immigration, to £150,000 ; after that date the votes to be by Parliament. The other amendments are not very important. Mr Yogel intimated his willingness to accept them with some slight alteration. The prorogation is not expected till to-morrow week. The business of the House to-day was unimportant. The Municipal nominations to-day caused some interest ; two out of three seats being contested. The Secretary of Customs has rereceived the following telegram from Havelock : — " The Master of the schooner Canterbury reports an unknown rock about three miles outside Chetwode Island. The schooner was on ifc seven hours, and got back to Pelorus Sound much damaged. The Master was unable to take compass bearings, but will try to do so by boat. He thinks that the rock is situated about five miles from the mainland and two from Chetwode, as he could see part of Ketu Bay from the rock. The rock is small, wifch three feefc of water on it at low water spring tides, and deep water all round. The schooner struck about half ebb. W. Whitehorn officer in charge."
