LAMPS ON PRIVATE TRAPS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAB. Sib, — It is true that the city is dark, and it iB equally true that " private traps " are numerous, but it ia not true that accidents are preralent because the " private traps " have no lights. If the City Council should compel " private traps " to " light up," there can be no objection to compel every burgess to carry a lantern. The Chinese do it. It would be conducire to business in many ways. Lamps and lanterns would be wanted ; 1 increased consumption of oil and sperms would cause New Zealand whales and seals to be caught, and many honest men would be \ discovered by the lanterns in unsuspected places. Who knows ? Your obedient serrant, GIGLAMPS. P.S. — The platform of the new Councillors will be " more shingle and less by-laws."
