CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION.
The nomination of a candidate to represent the City of Christchurch in the General Assembly, in room of Mr Travers resigned, took place at the Town Hall at noon to-day. There was a numerous attendance of influential citizens. Dr Donald having read the writ, Mr John Grigo rose to propose Mr Moorhouse as ■ a fit and proper person to represent the city jof Christohurch in the General Assembly; but Mr Grigg'* name not bsing on the roll, his Worship the Mayo* of Chbistcburok: said he had much pleasure in proposing Mr Moorhouse. Mr John Tetley seconded the nomination.: | No other candidate being proposed, Mr i Moorhouse was declared duly elected. Mr Moorhouse then addressed those present, and the proceedings terminated, with a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer.
