•(^ Dunedin, August 1, 6.20 p.m. Information was received by the Government this morning that the gaol afc Clyde was broken into last night and that all the escort gold and money for the month were carried off. "We. have since learned that the amount of gold stolen waa nearly 20C0 ounces, besides a large quantity of Bank notes. No further particulars to hand. Napieb, August 1, 4.50 p.m. J«__ report has reached here that on jluly 25, 30 Hau-haus attacked the Tologa Bay natives, who were engaged in digging potatoes, wounding two. The Hau-haus were attacking' the pah when the messenger left. Oaptain Richardson and 20 men of the Armed Constabulary, and Captain Porter, with 20 natives, left Poverty Bay on July 26 to reinforce our allies. It is expected that Eopata will attack the enemy with the Ngatiporous. It is reported as a reason for the attack, that the enemy were starving. Wellington, August 1, 7 p.m. The Rangatira has been purchased by Captain Renner, Chief Engineer, Mr Traill, and others, for £3000. Mr Collie writes to the United States Consul here positively denying Mr Hall's statement that he had been, offered "Webb's boats. Mr Collie has reduced his demands for subsidy from all colonies to £50,000. The Rangitoto is detained till tomorrow. Mr Travers has resigned his seat.
