*. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Dbunkekness. —James Stedman was proved, on the evidence of constable Firman, to hare been incapably drank whilst driving a horse and cart in Caahel street; but being his first offence, he was only mulcted in a penalty of 10s. — William Booth, who appeared for the first time before the Bench, admitted having been drunk and incapable yesterday. Having been locked up all night, he was discharged with a caution. jCA. New Wat of Obtainihg a Ridb.— GFeorge Wells and Qt. W. Stevens, each about nine years of age, were summoned for having taken a hone whilst tied .up in a public thoroughfare, and ridden it about the city. It appeared that the horse was left near the shop of Messrs flawkes and. Strouts, but on the owner returning on completion of his business, it was gone. There was a saddle and bridle upon it, and some parcels tied to the latter. The aocusad,it would seem, had untied the animal and ridden it about the town — one of them getting " a spill " whilst so doing — and then tied it up to the chapel, near the Drill Shed, evidently with the intention of riding it on the following day. They admitted having untied the horse and taken it away in the first instance, but said that shortly after so doing, some older boys took it from them. Inspector Pender said he believed the accused had been incited to the first offence by older boys, and the parents of both saying they had already inflicted punishment, bis Worship discharged them with a severe reprimand and caution.
