Wellington, July 27, 7.35 p.m. The Court of Appeal sat to-day. The following judgments were given : Begina v. Fulton, rule made absolute ; Regina v. Jackson, rule absolute; Begina v. Fagg, conviction affirmed. The liquidators of the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company re-adver-tise the plant for sale. The boats are to be laid up on completion of the present trips. Mr Martin intends to sue the liquidators for a dividend on the reported sale to the Union Company. In the House of Representatives Mr Travers moved a resolution in favour of taking the verdict of a majority of juries in an excellent speech. Messrs Potts, Macffarlane, Ludlam, Clarke, Macandrew, Brandon, Gillies, and Eeynolds supported the motion. Messrs Yogel and Main opposed, and Messrs Haughton and Stafford supported the motion generally, but argued in favour of a postponement. The motion lapsed through the dinner adjournment. The financial proposals, as recommended to the House in a message from the Governor, will be considered to-morrow. Napiee, July 27, 4.25 p.m. Mr Palmer's stable has been burnt down. The cause of the fire is not known. An inquiry will be held tomorrow. A meeting has been held to form a Water Supply company. The proposed capital is £3000 in £5 shares; 2CO shares are already taken up. It is believed that if the company is successful it will be the means of lowering insurance premiums.
