The schooner Lady Don, bound for Kaiapoi, has just put into Port through stress of weather, and the schooner Emerald has been compelled to put back. We are requested, to state that the s.s. Taranaki will not leave Lyttelton for the North to-morrow, as advertised. Owing to the tremendous sea running, she has been unable to cross the bar at Dunedin. j The Circular Saw Steam Navigation Co's s.s. Phoebe, Capt. Worsp, arrived in harbour yesterday, at 10.25 a.m., from the North. She left Wellington at 4 p.m. on Monday, arriving as above. The Phoebe sailed last night for Dunedin. We are indebted to the purser for files. We are informed that the brig Layard, lying at anchor off Timaru, went ashore this morning between Mr LeCren's office and the Landing-shed. All hands were saved by the rocket apparatus. A very heavy sea was running, and there was no chance of getting her off. The schooner E. U. Cameron, Captain Swanspn, arrived in harbour yesterday, from Dunedin. Captain Swanson reports leaving Port Chalmers on Thursday last, bound for Kaiapoi, and to having encountered head jrinds and a terrific sea — worse, in fact, than he has known for the last fourteen years. He was obliged to run for this port for shelter. He also reports that Ihe schooner Elizabeth Curie left Dunedin for Kaiapoi at the same time as himself, but saw nothing of her during the passage.
