ITBW jLDI BBTISJaiTENTS. orators and canvassers, released from the duties of the Superihtendental election, appear to have been told off to look after the Fapanui district and bully the opposition candidate, and now a member of the Government itself appears on the scene. We trußt the Fapanui electors will be true to themselves, and independent enough to return their members without reference to outside influence of any kind. Of one thing they may be perfectly sure, that it iB always a bad sign when Governments attempt to influence elections. We have not the slightest personal interest in Mr Peacock or any other individual candidate. Very likely he does look after his own interests. Most of us do, not excepting even Mr Wynn Williams. It would be the easiest thing in the world to prove that the two very estimable gentlemen who are contesting this very seat against Mr Peacock belong to a class which has always proved remarkably keen in looking after its own interest — to a clasß which has taken advantage of its position in the Legislature to alter and amend the land laws from time to time entirely with a view to its own particular interests. We shall not, however, follow Mr Wynn Williams' example, but content ourselves simply with urging upon the electors of Papanui the duty of resenting any attempt on the part of the Government to influence their action in the present election. 831 END OF NBW JJ>VJSRTIBEM EA TS.
