«§§< . Najpiee, April 28, 5 p.m. •Intelligence was received last evening that ten men of Hapurona's hapu, Urewera tribe, came out of the busb and surrendered to Capt. Mair. They state that Hapurona and his tribe, 40 in number, are willing to give themselves up if they could believe that their surrender would be accepted. This tribe has been hiding in Abikereru. They also state that Kooti has only 20 men; that he is at Waioeka gorge (Opotiki), and is living on fern-root and honey. Wellington, April 28, 7.15 p.m. The steamer Taranaki went to the bulk to coal to-day, and makes a trial trip on Saturday. Next week she goes south, under the command of Capt. Holmes, while the "Wellington is undergoing repairs. The marine authorities refuse the Taranaki a passenger- carrying certificate until her bottom has been inspected in dock. The Bishop of "Wellington, has accepted the office of chaplain and Suffragan Bishop to the Bishop of Liehfield ; consequently he does not return to the colony. At a meeting of the. New Sfceam Navigation Company to-day the provisional directors resigned, owing to a want of support on the part of the public. The scheme will probably be abandoned.
