They state that Hapurona and his tribe, 40 in number, are willing to give themselves up if they could believe that their surrender would be accepted. This tribe has been hiding in Abikereru. They also state that Kooti has only 20 men; that he is at Waioeka gorge (Opotiki), and is living on fern-root and honey.
