The brig Spec, Captain Adair, arrived in harbour yesterday morning, from Newcastle, N.S.W., having left that port on the 12th inst , and experienced light N.E. breezes until making the Solander on the 21st ; thence experienced S.W. gales, accompanied ] by bail sleet and heavy sea, the barometer being as low as 28 ° 70' ; rounded the , Peninsula on the 25th, and came to anchor 4 miles outside the heads on the 26th, at 4 p.m. In. trying to get inside the heads, she lost both upper topsails, jib, and foresail. The Spec has a cargo of coal. The 5.3. Lerd Ashley, Capt. E. Wheeler, arrived in harbour this morning from the North, at 6.40. She left Onehunga wharf at 1.15 p.m. on April 20; anchored off Taranaki at 6.30 a.m. on April .21 ; sailed the same afternoon at 2.15, with fresh southerly winds and rain. Brought up off the Nelson lighthouse at 5.5 a.m. on April 22, having j made the passage, a distance of 146 miles, in 14 hours 50 mm.; left Nelson on April 23 at 12.45 p.m., reaching Pieton at 8.40 the same night, thus making 87 miles in 7 hours 55 minutes. When leaving the wharf at Pieton one of the warps got foul of the shaft of the propeller, and the lowness •of the tide prevented the vessel being hauled on to the bank ; so did not succeed in clearing the a rew until low water on Monday. Left at 2.30 p.m. that day, and reached Wellington at ?.1O p.m., thus making 52 miles in 4 hours 50 minutes; sailed from Welliagton at 5.30 p.m. on April 26, with a fresh southerly breeze, which by 10 p.m. increased to a heavy gale, which raised atremendous sea; at 11.15 p.m. put back, a tremendous sea running, and at 2.30 a.m on April U7, made fast again alongside the •wharf ; on April 28, proceeded to sea at 10.15 a.m., and experienced fresh southerly windß and heavy beam sea to arrival. We are indebted to Mr Pringle, purser, for full files. The Lord Ashley sailed this morning for Ota go. The b.s. Ahuriri, Captain Mowerday, arrived in harbour this morning at 7.10, from the North. She left Manukau on April 23, at 3 p.m. ; arrived at Taranaki on April 24, .•it 6 a.m. ; being unable to communicate with the shore, sailed at 12 noon ; arrived at Nelson on April 25, at 5 a.m. j left same day at 3.30 p.m. ; arrived at Pieton at midnight ; left that port for Wellington at 3 a.m. on April 26; arriving at 8 a.m. same day; sailed for Lyttelton on April 26 at 5.15 p.m., but owing to the heavy gale pat back at 10.50 p.m. ; came to anchor off the wharf at 2 a.m. on April 27 ; weather moderating, sailed again on April 28 at 11.15 a.m., and experienced fine weather with heavy head sea until arrival as above.
