NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. THE StJPEBINTENDENCT. IN CONSEQUENCE of STATEMENTS having been made concerning the STATE of the PDBLIC ACCOUNTS at different periods of Mr MOORHOUSE'S ADMINISTRATION, calculated to damage Mr Moorhouse at the coming Election, the attention of the Electors is requested to the following statements (which have been carefully compiled from official returns) of A FEW FACTS. When Mr Moorhouse came into Office in November, 1857, there was a balance to the credit of the Province of £6,810 Os. Od. When he left Office, in Maroh, 1863, the balance to the credit of the Province was £31,978 4s. lid. When re-elected, in June, 1866, there was a balance against the Province on the 30th of that month amounting to £82,216 17s. Id. When he left Office, in May, 1868, the balance to the credit of the Province was, on the 30th of June, following, £130,616 9s. Od, after paying off £51,929 17s. ld. due to the Bank. And there was a borrowing power left to tbe extent of £200,000 in the Canterbury Loan. Mr Moorhouse expended in Pablio Works from November, 1857, to March, 1863, £4?3,000 : and from June 1866, to May 1868, £168,310. Electors wiil do well to bear in mind that it was the Hall, Bealey, and Rolleston Party who spent £250,000 on the West Coast Road; about £15,000 on the Extravagant Council Chambers ; and who paid Mr Doyne about the same amount for professional services which were of no use to the province. c 592 DISTRICT ORDER.
