Constable Willis proved .the offence, and Inspector Pender said Mr Jones, the Station Master, had complained of the prisoner conducting himself in a very violent, manner previous to the constable being sent for. these offences at the Railway Station. The presiding magistrate remarked upon this, together with the absolute necessity of putting a stop to it, and Used the prisoner 20s, anorder also being made for him to pay the expenses of a cab hired to convey him to the lock-up. — Willhm Williams and James Cole were jointly charged with having resisted the police whilst in the execution of their duty, and the latter with a further offence of indecent exposure in a public thoroughfare. Constable Thompson said : On Saturday afternoon he arrested prisoner near the Criterion Hotel for indecency, but he resisted in a very violent manner, repeatedly kicking witness on the legs. With some difficulty witness got prisoner a short distance towards the lock-up, when Cole (prisoner's mate) came up and endeavoured to rescue him. Sergt. McKnight then came to the assistance of witness, and the two prisoners were ultimately conveyed to the lock-up in a cart. The presiding magistrate said the offence was a very serious one, and the police must certainly be protected in the execution of their duty. The prisoners would be fined £3 each, or, in default, one week's imprisonment at bard labour. Cattle Stealing. — Robert Ross, on remand for this offence, was brought up in custody, but the polica not being yet prepared to go forward with the case, he was therefore remanded until Wednesday next.
